Terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Senso Ventures Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (number 14518265) which trades as Beacon, registered office 20 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7GU, United Kingdom. By creating a Beacon account you accept them.

1. What Beacon is

Beacon is a contact database and digital business card. You get a page at a web address with a QR code. People who scan it can save your details and leave theirs, and what they leave becomes a contact record you own.

2. Your account

• You must be 18 or over.
• Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• Give us an email address that reaches you. It is how we contact you about your account, and at present it is the only way back in if you are locked out.

3. Your data stays yours

You own the contacts you capture. We claim no rights over them beyond what is needed to run the service for you: storing them, showing them to you, and sending them where you tell us to.

You are responsible for having a lawful reason to hold those people’s details and for honouring their rights. Our privacy policy explains the split.

4. What you may not do

• Use Beacon to collect details from people who have not agreed to give them to you.
• Send unsolicited bulk email to contacts you captured here.
• Upload anything unlawful, or impersonate somebody else.
• Attempt to access another customer’s workspace, or to break, overload or probe the service.
• Resell Beacon as your own product.

If you do any of these we may suspend or close your account. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first.

5. Paying

• The free plan is free, holds up to 50 contacts, and does not expire.
• Pro costs £4.99 a month, or £49 a year, billed in advance through Stripe.
• Prices include any VAT that applies. We will tell you at least 30 days before any price change, and you may cancel before it takes effect.
• A failed payment does not delete anything. Your workspace returns to the free plan and your data stays where it is.

6. Cancelling and refunds

Cancel whenever you like, from Settings, through the billing portal. It takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for and you keep Pro until then.

If you are a consumer in the UK or EU you have 14 days to change your mind and get a full refund, unless you have asked us to start the service immediately and it has been fully performed. Outside that, payments for a period already started are not usually refunded, but if Beacon has not done what it should have done, write to us and we will sort it out.

Closing your account deletes your data as described in the privacy policy. Export anything you want to keep first.

7. Availability

We work to keep Beacon running but do not promise it will never be unavailable. We may take it down for maintenance, and will avoid busy periods where we can.

We do not offer a service level agreement on any plan at present. If that changes we will say so here rather than quietly.

8. If something goes wrong

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

Beyond that, our total liability to you in any twelve month period is limited to what you paid us in that period. We are not liable for lost profits, lost business or lost data beyond that amount.

Keep your own backup of anything you cannot lose. That is not us avoiding responsibility; it is sound practice with any service, including ours.

9. Ending it

You can close your account at any time. We can close yours with 30 days’ notice, or immediately if you break section 4 or do not pay. If we close your account without cause, we refund the unused part of anything you have paid.

10. Changes

We may change these terms. If a change materially affects you we will email you at least 30 days beforehand, and continuing to use Beacon after that means you accept it. If you do not, cancel and we will refund the unused part of your current period.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your own country.
